New angler on the Melbourne shore scene

Post by pommeangler » Thu Dec 18, 2014 7:14 pm

Hello there to you all, I've just arrived from England and I'm keen to sample some of Port Phillips fishing.
I've done a bit of shore fishing back home, but I'm keen for any tips of hot locations and techniques, although I'm sure they are similar in lot's of respects...
Firstly though, where would be a good place to pick up second hand gear? I'm in need of a couple of rods, reels and the terminal tackle for now...
And also a good friendly tackle shop to chat about the best methods...
I'd also perhaps ask if there was a fishing buddy who wouldn't mind being a guide to a novice to these shores one time....

Thanks a bundle.

Welcome mate. As an ex-pom my advice is if you don't know what it is don't pick it up until you do. Compared to the UK there's a fair few local fishes that can give you a nasty sting or spiking if you're not aware of how to handle them.

What species are you thinking of chasing and whereabouts ? Loads of helpful people on here - I'm sure you'll get the advice you need

G'day and welcome  , cheers davo
It's an exhilarating feeling catching a fish
But it's an even better feeling releasing them
