New member intro
Hi all,
just joined the forum as I intend to get into land based fishing in Port Phillip Bay around the Frankston area, and this forum seemed to have up to date topics re same with active members contributing.
I've just ordered the "Land Based Fishing Guide to Port Phillip Bay" after seeing it suggested on one thread - might help prevent some dumb questions.
I was brought up in Northern Vic near Echuca and as a kid many years ago fished the Campaspe River and the irrigation channels in the area, mainly trying to get Redfin - which as time went on were starting to get over-run by European Carp. That was just tying on a bobber, then a hook and a sinker below it and using earth worms.
I've never fished in salt water and basically have no clue about it. I find the different kinds of fish and multiple types of associated lines, lures and baits you can use a bit confusing to be honest.
Anyway, I have a couple of roads with light spinning reels and am keen to get into it. Probably Frankston Pier to begin with but I see that there are multiple other spots off rocks and maybe at Patterson River to investigate. Hopefully the book can give me some tips on which set-ups to use at those locations. Google & Youtube are also being my friends.
Anyhow, that's about it. Wish me luck and try not to hammer me too hard if I ask something that seems like a no-brainer to the more experienced.

Re: New member intro
good intro and welcome to the site!
i have the AFN guides for fishing Melbourne (with rex hunt on the cover) and the AFN fishing atlas for Victoria's coastline, didnt realise there was a land based one as well so i just ordered that since its under $15...they are a good read!
if i were you id definitely give Patterson river boat ramps a try, there are literally heaps of bream around there.. i tend to doughnut most places in port phillip bay land based but at Patterson its one of the only spots where ive caught the target species more often than not, and on your light rods they would be perfect with a running sinker rig and a size 2-4 long shank with a peeled prawn as bait..
