G-day from the Macca
Finally getting to "come home" after living in the US for far too long. I was actually born in Brisbane. However, my new assignment will take me to Melbourne. Hope you all will be kind to a Queenslander!
I've been fishing since before I could walk, love to catch ANYTHING other than an STD and took up fly fishing over 20 years ago. Therefore, while I'm looking forward to ALL the great fishing in Victoria, I'd especially appreciate any tips on where to go fly fishing. Doesn't have to be streams, I've caught 7 kilo red drum and 15 kilo striped bass on a fly rod.
We are thinking about moving to Carrum. If you all have any input on that area in terms of "safe place to live" or the best charters out of there, I'd appreciate it. Although I'd prefer to make some new mates, perhaps have a coldie  or a Bundy Rum and learn from the locals!!
Cheers,
John "Mac" McEntire

carrum , is a nice place to live mate, bit on the expensive side but close to the beach.
bonbeach, chelsea and patterson lakes are neighbouring suburbs.
one of the main boat ramps in melbourne is located in carrum, and thats where a lot of the charter boats leave from for snapper fishing in Port Philip bay, which coincidentally is just starting now. in the next few months that area will be extremely busy.

Carrum is an awesome place to live mate. Right on Port Phillip Bay, and only a stones throw from Western Port (the better bay )

G'day and welcome, good luck with your fishing, cheers davo
It's an exhilarating feeling catching a fish
But it's an even better feeling releasing them
