Had the opportunity to go out in a couple of boats this weekend which was good. First one I went in was a 4.3m tiller steer and the other was a 4.6m side console.

I can definitely see what people mean with it being hard to see in the tiller steer when not on the plane. The boat had a 50hp suzuki 4 stroke and go on the plane in like a second so it wasn't a huge deal it but the visibility better on the side console. Once it was on the plane and trimmed visibility was fine. Both both were surprisingly dry didn't get a drop of water on me although it was a pretty nice day. I would imagine it wouldn't be as dry worse conditions. Both boats were pretty fast with topping out at around 50kph at full throttle. Should open upon a lot more spots compared to the 7kph I can do in the kayak.

I did really like the room on the tiller steer, it felt huge compared to my friends runabout with all the open space. I liked that when bait fishing off the back of the boat you can move both seats to the mid ship positions and have plenty of room for two people to sit down comfortably. On the side console there wasn't much room behind the drivers chair to fish.

At this point I'm actually leaning towards a tiller steer because I feel like it would be more versatile but I'm keen to get into a centre console and see how they are.

good to see you are taking your time and trialling a few boats.
the side console sits wonky on a single person onboard, dont forget that as well.
in a centre console your always standing (or opt for a box seat, but takes up a lot of fishing space i reckon) that means even more visibilty and less spray.
do yuor research and trials now, and buy when the boat show is on, will get some $$$ knocked off without a doubt.

You can't beat tiller steering for fishing space in boats under 4.5m, what brands did you test out?

The tiller was a Savage Scorpion 435 and the Side Console was a Stessco Renegade 460. I quite liked the savage boats, seem like good value. The scorpion was nice and is a little longer that most other brands boats in that price bracket. I also liked the Rebel 449 model. It was pretty basic in terms of features but has heaps of floor space and is very good value.

That's currently the plan, figure out exactly what I want and make a short list so I can go to the boat show and see what the best deal is.

No necessary anything wrong ,it's in warnambool ,(harder to sell).
Sometimes people quick sale( health, financial reasons ECT ) instead wanting top Dollar and boat for months sitting in their driveway and a thousand tyre kickers viewing boat .
