Might aswell do a intro

Post by saph » Tue Mar 05, 2019 7:45 pm

Hi im saph been fishing on and off now for 12 years i started on a old alvey side cast and generic rod that my nan gave me and to this day i still have but dont use.

Based in caloundra and fish when i can mostly aka every 2 weeks when i get paid since the bait i like is 10 a pack.

Joined up here for when i move to victoria so i can start gathering advice on stuff early and not get caught out after a 2 state move and have no idea what works where and when.

Also a major alvey lover for the pure dumb proofness of their reels that even after taking a drink in the salt for 10 minutes (had to get a few people to pull lines in so i wouldnt get tangled) still go on and on.

Great people and advice from what ive seen around the forums and looks like victoria will be a great place to fish not only with the amount of diffrent species but with what vfa is puttting into the community even if its via fishing licencing.

I guess thats it from me for now.

Welcome mate.
All the best with the move down south.
Plenty of squid available here that you can catch and use as bait. So that will get you out fishing more often for cheaper.
Cheers

Landbased for now having no car sucks and i dont think a zook sierra (what im looking for) would enjoy towing a boat.

Welcome mate, what are you targeting when you go fishing? Pinkies and flatties have no trouble taking chicken breast fillets which can be cheap or even try trapping some poddy mullet which is free. They're great bait too, apart from squid which can be tricky at times to catch for bait. Salmon and yakas are exelent bait too when filleted. All of which can be free

I just go for what ever i can get best on record has been 2 grassy sweetlips while defently undersized was a nice catch from my normal nothing or a happy moment (rabbit fish).

Caught on some squid that i cut to half look like a worm wiggling about, this one was about 19cm or so since the ruler isnt fully lined up right.

G’day mate welcome aboard.
I see bait costs is keeping you from fishing more I suggest catch/collect your own, purchase some lures soft plastics maybe to get out there more.

Welcome.
Yes, cost of buying baits can be pretty high. Stocking squids is a good idea indeed.
Throw some breadcrumbs mixed with water and you'll attract some mullets.
Do a day trip to dig in some pipis around venus bay, or sandworms and yabbies during low tide. Stock them.
