Intro to an 'old' member

Post by GusG » Thu May 09, 2019 10:33 am

Hi everyone,

My name is Gus. I have been on this forum for a number of years. Went from the old Fish-Vic to this one but never really posted anything and then drifted away from fishing as other things in life took over.

I am back now and decided to check out the site, say g'day and get back into fishing. I got the fishing bug in the best way possible. Went fishing offshore with a mate in Bermagui but it wasn't that which got me back into fishing. It was actually taking my daughter and my girlfriend's son (both aged 8) to Tathra pier and fishing with them. It was fishing at it's simplest, light line, single hook and split shot. We caught slimies, yakkas, a trevally and one flatty. They had a ball, I had a ball and now I am keen to get back into it. Amazing seeing the excitement on their faces when a slimy or yakka is giving them what for on the end of their lines.

So here I am, lurking, reading and hopefully finding time to get out for a fish among all the other competing interests in life. I figure I can take the kids down to a few piers in the bay and keep them interested. As long as fish are biting they are happy, they don't care about the size or species. Hopefully there are a few grown-up sessions for me too.

I like all sorts of fishing in salt, rocks, boat, lures, bait, etc and I like throwing lures and flies in the fresh.

Anyhow, I will contribute where I can. I like to support forums, a couple of the older forums I was on have disappeared and I am not on FB so want to keep forums relevant and current.

Gus

Welcome back.
I hear a lot of similar stories of people pause their fishing for family and back to fishing once the kids are big enough.
Must be priceless to see those smiles on their faces.

Welcome back to the forum, enjoy your fishing, cheers davo
It's an exhilarating feeling catching a fish
But it's an even better feeling releasing them
