Re: salmon lures
Lure weight depends a bit on the fishing rod that you are using.darkefishing wrote:I was wondering if anyone has any general advice on using lures for salmon and also one particular question if I struggle to cast a lure if its abit lighter sould I have a leader then a running sinker suitable for the conditions
The rod I use the most is a Pro angler 11' and 40 gram lures suit this rod very nicely. You could add extra weight however a running sinker will effectively kill any distance, so a fixed weight would be more ideal.
Some lures are not aerodynamic for casting and only will be effective for short distances.

Re: salmon lures
As Phil Has said, it depends on your rod, reel and one setup. Post exactly what you're using, then we can help you from there.

Re: salmon lures
first get lure to the fish then worry about what fish think about it.
if you cant get it near them it is irrelevant if it look like caviar on toast, they wont see it.
for salmon IMHO follow the three F;s,
Make it fly, make it flash, makes it fun,
If you desire to get more refined I would suggest going as small as you can get away with. In my experience if they are on small bait a big lure may get overlooked. When they are on big bait they will hit anything.
