Gunnamatta Fires Thursday Afternoon.
Hey Guys,
Hit Gunnamatta yesterday afternoon after seeing a small window of good conditions and was treated to what I can only describe as absolute carnage on the salmon front and possibly the best session I have ever experienced.
I walked down the ramp and went left maybe 50 meters to the first clear bit of water between some surfers and a few people soaking baits and from my very first cast it was on.
After my first 7 casts resulted in 7 hookups with 6 fish landed it was about 630pm and I thought I would call Carl and tell him to get here asap.
I never moved from my original spot in the entire two and a half hours I was there and is was pretty much a fish every 1 or 2 casts for that entire time.
It was that nuts that we were hooking up and passing the rods to some of the baito's who were getting nothing to have a crack at landing a fish for themselves and also giving some fish to a few passing surfers.
We both got our bag dropped heaps, threw some back but really just had a complete ball the entire time. Some of the visual action was absolutely insane as we would watch the water just begin to boil up behind our lures then just massive surface splashing and fish on. We could constantly see fish jumping out the back waves and could even see a huge dark patch that would have been 50 to 100 meters wide just thick of fish.
Some of the surfers coming in were saying they could see them out there and that there were literally thousands of fish just sitting out the back.
For me personally this is a session I will never forget I have been fishing since I was a kid and this is the most mayhem I have experienced yet.
The only bad side was lugging 30+kg of salmon back to the car but even so still couldn't wipe the smile off our faces.

Yeah, been using a t curve revolution inshore...with the trusty van staal. Real workhorse setup, can put the hurt on bigtime...still looking at an xzoga down the track though, love custom rods...lol..shazdoggg wrote:Cheers Carl! Have you got yourself a new surf spinning rod yet?
