Ask at the local tackle store for much of the above information,

I am sure you will find most of the answers listed under this topic already discussed in previous forums.

Salmon are a highly mobile species so where they were yesterday, might not be where they are going to be today.

If a school moves through a hot bite may last a few minutes to an hour or so.

You're doing Land base or off a boat ? For aussie salmon, you really more likely need ot be in teh right palce in tehr ight time.

I fish off a kayak at altona, but due to my work, I only get weekend to fish. Then I read alot of report who also fish off Altona, they have seen salmon bust off within casting distance of shore (like 50m or less) and salmon up to 40+cm long....... And they can jsut dissappeared as quickly as that (often due to damn boats fisho saw the bsut off and drive right through the school) ......

Having said that, so far from all of the report i read, school of salmon ahs been swimming back and forth between williamstown and altona, so you will have good chance there.

Agree with the right place right time. Went for a stroll down the pier on Friday after work just in time to see a bloke bag 4 smallish salmon in about 2 mins, on a soft plastic. Couldn't get them out fast enough. No one either side of him got a sniff.

the soft plastics work a treat as do bibed lures, the distance suffers a bit with these so if you need to get out a bit you'll have to go the metals.

I think Salmon responds to the shiny metal lures more on sunny days , but plastic and other lures are not bad too
you just need them to be there and anything will catch them :) LOL
