lots of Aussie salmon around

Post by rafei1 » Thu Feb 26, 2015 1:16 pm

Just excited to know if anyone is having more luck on the Australian salmon. Especially near Paterson lakes and mordialloc.
Yesterday managed to hook 6 at mordi in the afternoon , 3 got away as i didnt have a net, and as i lifted them up consider ing they were quite decent sized, between 30 and 40cm on a light rod some got loose, biggest i caught was 39cm, definitely put a great fight on a light rod
As ive been heading for salmon recently ive always had at least a hookup some of which are undersize and so they live to fight another day. :water: and also noticed dolphins chasing them down at some point, so good luck all. Not much luck on any other fish
Best so far: 47cm aus salmon, 41cm mullet, 40cm king George whiting , 38cm Bream, 35cm flathead, 33 cm pinky, squid 20cm. 2 sting rays caught caught, 1 took a rod as a souvenir. Need to catch snapper... :fish11:

What time in the arvo roughly? They seem to be more prevalent and on the chew closer to late arvo/sunset last 'season'. I did well off Blairgowrie around May-July but it was hard to predict when they would come. Once I got 12 around 10pm - there was a mass school just sitting there!

if there 30 to 40 cm and your losing them your leader is not strong enough to pull them in you should not even need a net at that length just pull them in

Thx for the tip i thought the hook got loose just before i pulled them in, and i replaced the treble hooks for a stronger brand cause the original ones are weak.
