The one that did not get away!

Post by Wolly Bugger » Wed Jul 22, 2015 7:55 pm

Went to one of my usual haunts, doing the one thousand, one hundred casts, when I finally hook a fish. It wasn't big, but then the next 2 hook ups get lost just in the wash. Changing lures, trying something different, feel a few bumps then nothing. Cast again and again, still nothing, then occasionally the odd bump.

Then the next cast, a bump, followed by another bump, then it feels heavy, maybe I hooked some seaweed. Line starts to slowly peel off the fishing reel, wind gain some line and then loose it again. Eventually get the fish in the wash and drop the rod tip parallel with the water, just in case it decided to jump and toss the hook again.

Eventually I managed to skull drag it up the beach, and this salmon had inhaled the hook. No time to dig the hook out, just undo the clip and put a new lure on. Then my asthma hit really bad, unable to breath, struggling to gain my breath and the ventolin was in the car. Fair well to a nice fishing session.

Bad luck about having to stop fishing just when they got on to bite Wolly, but your really should carry the ventolin next time especially if you going to go spinning

Nice work Wolly, as a fellow Athsma sufferer, nothing worse than having an attack and leaving the puffer in the car. I carry a ventolin on me 100% of the time if I can help it, however when your athsma is properly managed, sometimes you take it for granted that you dont need it until you get stuck into something strenuous, at least you got onto fish!

Nice one.
Looks like a Gillies glow in the dark lure, they work well.

I used to have asthma like that until I started using a preventative. It also can be used to replace ventolin but I have never needed to so far. I'm using now Symbicort and wish I had done so a lot earlier. When I had it under control I haven't had to use it every day either. It has changed my life. I'm able to do a lot more physical activities and I never have to reach for the puffer. Good health means more fishing. Nice catch.

I have been on symbocort. Now on another one, plus steriods. Spent yesterday morning in emergency.
