Any good for salmon?

Post by Vropek » Fri Jan 17, 2014 10:16 pm

I hear salmons will eat about anything, do you think they will eat something half their size? or do I have to stock up on some slugs?

They will eat that but something a bit smaller will result in more hook ups. Where are you fishing? Surf or bay, boat or landbased?

Boat fishing, I've given up on all other forms of fishing.. never get anything. Just blew $200 on kingfish/snapper lures was wondering if I could use it to catch other species in Port Phillip Bay.

The assist hook wont be very effective on the smaller salmon under 40cm but for the bigger models its fine. You could also try putting a split ring and treble on the back if you are missing hook ups. Otherwise any small hardbody, slug or plastic up to 10cm or so is fine, they aren't generally a fussy fish unless they are chasing a specific sized baitfish which is too small to match with lures.

Looks like a knife jig for vertical jigging dropping to the bottom the high speed eratic retrieve its not designed to cast and retrieve. I have never tried them that way before
