I'm fishing red rock, Phillip island....
Hi all, I'm heading to red rock on Phillip island next Saturday, has anyone fished there before. It would be good to know what to take and target, as I want to travel as light as possible. Cheers wozzamozza :victory:

Wozza,
Yep it's actually called 'Red Point' at Cape Woolamai.
First things first. It's a 3.4km walk from the carpark to the beach at Red Point and then a further 500m if you wish to travel right onto the point.
I havent fished right on the point as its a bit exposed. I have only fished off the rocks/beach due north of the point as its a bit more sheltered. I would only fish there on a 0-5kts from the west otherwise it's not worth it.
I have no idea weather you can cast into the channel there or not.
Species I have encountered there: Parrotfish, Wrasse, Silver Trevally, KGW (to 52cm!!), and Stingrays 150+kg's .
I would take Fresh Squid and maybe some Salmon or Trevally Fillet.

Same as I've caught........not really a seasonal fishing spot.

I'd take a 10-12ft surf rod with an 8-10000 reel loaded with 30 or 50lb braid and some size 6/0-8/0 circle hooks and chuck a slice of Salmon/Trevally out. It's the sort of spot where if you did catch something big they will use the tide to their advantage and may take some stopping.
I would also take a 6-8ft rod rated 2-4kg, a 2500 reel with 8-10lb braid, and some size 6 baitholder hooks for your smaller fish. Try and cast either just short or past one of the many weed beds there and that should keep you occupied .

If you put out a big bait you will most likely get onto a few sharks....... unfortunately they will be draughtboards and port jacksons.
I would think there would be some salmon around there
