I figure if I walk from the Westgate bridge to Sorrento I'll probably get at least 1 flathead, but would like to narrow it down a tad!
May try Patto river thanks Gav. May also try around Mordi thanks Freakazoid.
Any other location tips welcome (besides Brighton pier - I don't know if I can face it again, and the paid parking there is a joke!)
Lol

I find if i kind of drag the plastic along the bottom I have more success, then flicking rod aggressively upwards n plastic going straight up.

I do more sideways flick, as oppose to straight up
. Or slow wind in with pauses.

Find green plastics go ok.
To many boats kayak, helicopter , catch a fish, catch a fish

Are bloodworm squidgie wrigglers any good? I know they're considered a bit of an all rounder but are they worth it for specifically targeting flathead?

Yeah they're very good in the 100-120mm sizes. I find the Berkley turtle back worms or the Zman Minnows very handy for flatties.

I like paddle tails and grub tails personally, I know the minnows work but I don't like the absence of action.
Squidgy wrigglers and fish are both good. I use zman grubz in 3.5 inch and the minnows, although I'm considering throwing a 4 inch paddle tail around the flats and seeing what takes it.

Park in one of the side streets across the road from the parking lot at Brighton, I never pay for parking there.

Very nice  bait or softy's if you don't mind me asking?

Was down there this evening flicking a few softy's off the end but no love.

Plastics are OK if you are fishing one spot - a pier or rockwall, targeting a specific dropoff, or if you are also soaking baits ... but if you want to wander along miles of beachfront prospecting for flatties, get some blades .... you can work them along the bottom a lot faster, cover a lot more ground and find a lot more fish.
