I think you have miss-read the post...
I think I did, so a spear was used?? What's the bottle for? was it you were dragging the bottle along the sand to kick up the sand and that's what attracted the flounder then you speared them?? How would you see properly if you made the water murky? This sounds like a bit of an art must be very old school I've never heared of it.
From what I understand of it he speared the flounder but had a beer bottle tied to his ankle dragging it behind him with burley in it, he said it was an old New Zealand tick ? I have never heard of this but looking at the results it must work ? !

Quote" Hey mate, burley up meaning we had tied to our ankles as we're wading through the water creating a trail like so the sand kicks it up as well for the bottom feeders to fish on. Used this method in NZ for Eeling and Flounder as well.

I used a beer bottle, wrapped the line around the body of the bottle holding it by the neck."

Hmmm cool although I still don't get how it works, burley would bring whole lot of other fish in unless it's just flounder in that area, I didn't even know you could effectively burley up the flounders and didn't know they react and move in that quick with burley, I'll have to maybe YouTube this see what comes up about it..

Im lost with this report. Done my share of floundering too and dont get how burley would help. Its all about stealth, a good light and great eyes. Correct me if im wrong

It doesn't sound practical at all.
I'm guessing the slack tide period is when you burley?? other wise you burley is just gonna drift away with the current.
So you walk with a bottle tied to ur ankle that's behind you?? How is that helping you bring fish in front of you? i don't see how the burley would be doing anything for you if it's trailing behind you and your looking in front of you kinda pointless isn't it??

Definitly a very respectable catch!
But I still don't understand how it works, I don't go for flounders I'm just interested in this technic as I've never heared of it. I watched a heap of you tube clips of floundering in New Zealand and couldn't see anything about useing burley.

Nice bag of fish there!

So you tie your spear to your ankles then use the handline with your feet right?
