This time of year til probably Sept, try to hunt for aussie salmon off rocks and beaches. Gunnamatta, back beaches and 90 mile beach can produce 1-2 kg aussie salmon and gummies.
Oct-Nov you can get big snapper off mt martha rocks.
What kind of gear would I need to prep in order to do that?

My longer rods are both for egi, which I assume would snap almost immediately if I tried to get a red onto them haha. My other rod is a 702MFS Daiwa Aird X, but I've been eye-ing off the 9' model as well.
For the rocks and piers like Mornington pier, at least a 9ft rod 9kg or 10kg rod class with at least 4000 reel that can hold 200m of 20 lb line.
You can go further and get 10ft or 11ft rod with 6000 reel and 30 lb line. But becomes too heavy. Though, can be used for surf fishing. On the surf, you need like 11ft or 12ft.

Yup, its getting on to that time of a year where we start planning out the upcoming season. My new spots to try will be...

Weather permitting, I wouldn't mind making an effort (its a long walk) to try off Boag Rocks on the Gunnamatta beach.

Plus I thought to also try along Point Nepean on the bayside, lure fishing instead of soaking baits.

The upper reaches of Barwon River, past the golf club, looks worthy of some exploration on google maps.

Webb Dock still holds my interest, though perhaps it will be more productive when the water temperatures rises.

Otherwise, Sandringham marina rockwall, but only late in the day going onto nightfall. Damn parking fees there are blatent robbery. Mt Martha always looks good on paper but the larger species have been elusive for me, but I'll keep returning because it is wonderfully peaceful early in the morning. Rumors of Kerford Rd reopening is good news, as the was a productive jetty before it was locked up.

Webb dock in spring is like a Sunday market, back to back.
I remember people camped there with shelter, bbq pit, esky, etc.
