Garmin 551s without transducer?

A mate's giving me one but it's just the head unit only, I have to try and find a power supply/data cable for it but as I already have a sounder could I operate it as just as a dedicated gps without the transducer cable attached?

Thats how we run ours... as a dedicated GPS. Does it have maps installed? Probably not much good without them.

Make sure you download homeport from Garmin. It let's you set up all your marks and plan out trips on the computer prior to heading out.

Sure do - in fact it's taken me about a year and half to realise it actually had a sounder function built in. To be honest even it was connected as a sounder I probably wouldn't use it as I doubt the screen would be big enough to run both at the same time.

If you have the maps installed you can't go wrong.

Yeah I want to be able to use it full screen to seeing it's only 5" -ta!
