50/200 Sounder Results
Yesterday we were out doing a bit of playing around with the sounder and wondering if someone might be able to help interpret some results.
(Should have taken a picture, will next time).....
But we were getting a whole bunch of little blobs in the lower 2 meters of the water column in the 200 frequency, but only little dots of clutter in the 50.
The blobs were consistent over an area, I.e not in a tree or gathered.... more a continuous run of them like in the sketch below. Gain was set between 5 and 6 on a Furuno 620.
We tried for some fish, but not a touch... So assuming it's not fish but something else?

Re: 50/200 Sounder Results
50kHz provides a wider beam ie more coverage and 200kHz provides more detail.
Typically this results in fish looking like arches on the 50kHz and looking like blobs on the 200kHz.
From my experience when you see small scattered blobs on the 200kHz and almost nothing on the 50kHz what you are seeing is weed.

Good advice frozenpod.
How do you "tune" a sounder with a p66 to give arches. Furuno 587.
Can't get arches to save ourselves.

You don't need to see arches but if you really want to.
What is the speed of advance set to?
Try slowing it down.

Re: 50/200 Sounder Results
Frozenpod is on the money. 50/200 is wide/narrow beam. I usually use the wider beam in shallow water and narrow beam in deeper water if I am concentrating on the bottom.

Yeah cheers guys!
I just wasn't sure what would be picked up on the one frequency and not the other.... but weed sounds about right!
