Nav light issue

Post by jfel » Mon Mar 12, 2018 8:31 pm

I’m having an issue with my nav lights. As it stands, the starboard light works but the port does not. At the back of the dash I noticed that one of the wires from the port light had disconnected. The wiring colours are all over the shop, but I think it’s the negative wire which is supposed to be connected to some sort of ground buss?

Anyway I held the wire to the buss and turned the nav lights on, but the fuse blew.

I’m stuck...

If you are sure you've located the 2 port light cables at the helm and the neg cable blows the fuse then there's a high chance the problem is either a short in the cable or a short in the lamp fitting.
First I'd open up the lamp and check there.

Good chance it has a short in the cable/light and the previous owner/mechanic just disconnected it but never fixed it.
