Boat grease/oil leak!!
I've noticed twice now that there seems to be some sort of grease or oil coming from the bottom of the shaft near the prop. Just woundering if this is normal or how I can check what's going on, also what grease do I buy and where are the points that need greasing!! Cheers
Tried to upload a photo but saying it's too big, dunno how I can make it smaller to upload!!

Re: Boat grease/oil leak!!
Bit hard without a pic or knowing what type or size of motor it is, but if it's a 2 stroke and its in the prop hub could be exhaust oil.If its not that then it sounds like a prop shaft seal and the oil is coming out of the g/box.
No grease points below the water line.
Ok that makes it a bit easier, pull the prop off, give everything a good wipe over in behind there, and if you see nothing obvious just let it sit for a few days and see if it starts weeping(check that there is oil in there first and it's not all milky). Most likely unburnt oil.

I buy red marine grease. If you are not handy take it to get the gearbox oil checked if water gets in to your gearbox it can cause you serious problems. I change my gearbox oil twice a year i had a seal leak once you should be able to tell from the smell if its 2 stroke or gear box oil both are distinctive.
My yamaha f200 has a grease nipple behind the propellor to lube the lower bearing.

Probably should have put a question mark against the grease points. Or deleted after i found out what motor it was.

Re: Boat grease/oil leak!!
Why not download the manual plenty online. As for grease nipples the shaft that the engine rotates on for steering will have at least 1 grease nipple on it, you pump grease in until you see fresh grease come out of both ends top and bottom. And the shaft that the engine tilts up and down on should have grease nipples on it . My engine also has grease a nipple under the engine cover for the gear selector

Re: Boat grease/oil leak!!
I use kero to wash oily greasy parts in. Is it leaking from the prop shaft seal or coming down the exhaust. I would check your gearbox oil .
