fishing rod holder rack 5x cornner unit

Post by williwonder » Sun Mar 01, 2015 4:04 pm

Hi fishos,
I have recently purchased a Savage Dolphin and I am looking at fitting a corner type snapper rack which fits into 2x flush rod holders at a certain centre distance (420mm from memory)
Has anyone had any experience with this type of rod holder and if so are they ok to fit?
Do I have to reinforce the fibreglass before fitting the flush mount rod holders?
Any info would be good. i am a tradesman and tool savvy. cheers

Whatever you do don't put plastic flush rod holders they snap under pressure. Are you talking about the right angle 5way rod holders like this

Hi Guys, rod holders as pictured in the last post for fishing not transporting made of ss set at a right angle. I think the vertical s have a slight taper to lock into the flush mount rod holders.

Barra mick is spot on mate. I do glass boat repairs and I can assure you that straight into glass will certainly end in tears. Over time from constant use and weight shifting on/off, you will start to see spider cracks around your fixings. Best thing to do is reinforce, by glassing a piece of marine grade hardwood, cut to measure under your rails. Glass it on properly and then through bolt with stainless bolts/washers/nuts. PM me if you need any further help buddy :)

I think the above rod holder the outboard fitting goes in on an angle the two vertical must just sit on top if they plugged in then you would struggle to get the outboard angle one in, I would ask the supplier how are they mounted . I had mine custom made to suit my boat by maquarries in Williamstown. But everybody is correct the upper deck of most boats is quite thin 5 to 8 mm constant pressure will cause the gel coat to crack and use bolts not screws to hold them screws always come loose.

Cheers guys I will definately reinforce. I have the boat at home until next snapper season so I have time to do a quality job. the old boat will do me until May.

Got 8 a side on the old mans boat. Custom stainless that fits straight into 2 flush mount rod holder's, one at the back, one about 500mm up the side. No other reinforcements etc. Very little movement on other rods in the holder's.
