Re: lone star winch
I didn't comment on what was good/bad, I just stated that I found more people had LS winches. Just always nice to have other peoples opinions IMO and have gotten helpful insight of what others are using too. Always good to have a good mix of competitors in the market, it helps keeps quality high and price low. And the video I stated actually lists bad points of all winches which is key rather than just stating pros.

Winch Shootout -
This video is worth a look at, with so many winch brands out there these day's to choose from, it may just help those interested in fitting a new winch to their boat form an opinion -

Re: lone star winch
Can someone share with me what allegedly happened at the boat show - or pm.
I've got a gx2 on my tub, 5.5M fibreglass (6M LOA) centre console. I've anchored all around the bay and outside the heads in all sorts of bottom structure.
I've definitely felt the bow pull down when the pick is wedged hard and the winch starts pulling hard.
No issues.
Retrieve rate is plenty fast enough and drop rate is good from what I can offer - re experience.
Some brand winches have free fall, I can't say I'd want or need that. But some might.
My old Dad and myself installed it pretty easily, just be careful if you DIY make sure you measure twice and drill once. And see if the boat builder will pre install the heavy gauge cable up to the bow for you - while it's being built , if it's not too late.

Re: lone star winch
One manufacturer confronted by others loudly claiming the whole thing was a marketing exercise by that company. With opposition winches deliberately tampered with etc. to fail sooner than the manufacturer who 'sponsored' the whole thing. Blah blah blah, the usual crap that happens in the boatin/fishing industry
