I use Navionics for tablet/mobile in conjunction with a basic Garmin fish finder.

How does that go outside of 4g range. Just save your money and get a vhf that doesnt have dsc then. One feature of the dsc if it is connected to a gps it has a emergency button when activated it transmits your lat long in conjunction with your epirb its worth its weight in gold if you need itChrisAbout wrote:I do not have a GPS in my boat.Nude up wrote:I have both on my boat best of both worlds. Nude up, Navionics does not require 4G range to operate. I can operate it with, or without a SIM card.
It uses the GPS function of your tablet/phone.
As long as your tablet/phone has GPS functionality, it'll work.
When compared to the same Navionics that runs on a chartplotter, the phone app is better in my opinion.

Nice. I've just changed my setup from my Samsung S7 Edge to a 10.1" tablet. Still getting used to the big screen

I have both ( twin aerial )
27 mg is still worth it, as mentioned, boat to boat when in a group is great. Plus, if you launch out of st Kilda, use your 27 meg to let them no what your up to for the day as you motor out, and contrary to popular belief, they will reply back immediately !!!! still monitored !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's why I have both, don't have a licence, but will do the course soon,,, of course it adds to the cost, but hey, that's boating
