Have been thinking to purchase one of those green submersible led lights myself from ebay though am concerned about what power source to use..... my brother is a sparky and told me that the regular 12v car battery isnt they way to go apparently. Something to do with them not designed to be a source of continuous use.

I'd been keen to here what power source you were going to use. (Being land based I wouldn't want to be lugging around a car battery as part of my kit in any case.)

Make sure you get dimable ones as you will be surprised how little light you need, once your eyes adjust.

I put a strip of both blue and white down each side of the boat under the gunnels, and another set on a separate switch under the front casting deck so I can find stuff when needed. The only issues I find is on freshwater on those hot summer nights when it's dead calm, you invite a **** load of bugs, they love them. Not so bad with a breeze or on the bay, you soon learn only to use them when needed.

When staying at deep lake with a group of caravans the mozzies were thick, and we tested a theory one of the caravaners had heard, that orange light doesn't attract mozzies. A few caravans had a cool or warm white led strip under their awnings and one had orange (one of those strips you can set to a certain colour). The orange lights had barely any bugs around it while the others looked like they were smoking there was so many mozzies around them. Orange was also closest to the water. May have been coincidence but it seemed to have worked. buying some of the multi coloured stripping and changing it from white to orange when your expecting mozzies could possibly be an option to try out? It's not a definite solution and could have been coincidence though
