Portable live bait tank

Post by ratbag » Sat Feb 24, 2018 3:58 pm

Have been trying out a few options for a live bait tank & wanted a portable option for 2 boats. Came up with a 60lt drum, clip on/off hose & pump to store in drum when in transit. Set up to pump fresh water in to bottom and old out the overflow at the top.

I have an esky set up as well, took up too much space & found the square setups had a shorter life span on yakkas & slimeys as they would congregate in one corner. Tried the round setup with much more success, they kept swimming around the drum. The 60lt upright didn’t fall over last weekend when chasing the salmon & kingies off seal rock & in some decent swell.

If you want to try an esky, I’ve got one setup I’ll lend to you.

Probably a few months. No hurry. Just to add to boat for if we need to keep live bait and dont think i will be out for that kinda fishing for a few months.
I want.to put in in the spare spot on back step.
What diameter is the drum. I think i have a 450mm x 450mm space between the transom and steering cable

I use to have a built in rectangular one on last boat and never had a problem with fish dieing when i ran the pump all the time.
