No more 2 strokes (nearly)
Just read on article on ABC news (I can't transfer)
From july 1 - No more 2 strokes can be imported (we don't make them ?)
Including outboards, mowers, brushcutters, generators etc
2 strokes still can be sold and used, but, when they die, that's it.
Cheers Gra

Re: No more 2 strokes (nearly)
Some of my 2 strokes blow smoke
Some are 50/1 & some 25/1. I run them all on 25/1.
A bit lazy I guess
Cheers Gra

Re: No more 2 strokes (nearly)
Manufacturers including the company I work for were warned of this cut off point years ago and to make sure our products fall into line with the new emission specs for Australia, used two strokes will be around for a long time to come, but new two strokes are banned into Australia.
As long as parts are available in Australia then two strokes will continue into the near future.
I don't know if two stroke parts will be banned from import ? if not banned then two strokes will be around for a long time to come.

Re: No more 2 strokes (nearly)
Are they actually banning just the Carbys or even the dire injected models?
because the direct injected models have decent emission figures these days..
im all for it even though i own a 2 stroke.

Re: No more 2 strokes (nearly)
This interests me more in the 4 stoke chainsaw. I'm not aware of any on the market but will be interested in the power difference, cheers davo.
It's an exhilarating feeling catching a fish
But it's an even better feeling releasing them

Re: No more 2 strokes (nearly)
JUst a handy comparison of the emmissions on most makes of outboards.
you can see how much the carby models produce,a nd how much the Direct ijjected versions produce, which is actually not that much different to the 4 strokes of similar Power rating.

Not a lot to go on but unless there is an extensive exceptiom list this comes across as idealistic and short sighted.
PS might be also where there is a company in vic starting production of carby 2 stroke motors for use in Jet Skis, motor bikes and potentially expanded to outboards.

Re: No more 2 strokes (nearly)
You can get them, but they have issues. Apart from the extra weight and lack of power the big issues is they cannot be used all all angles.davek wrote:This interests me more in the 4 stoke chainsaw. I'm not aware of any on the market but will be interested in the power difference, cheers davo.

They really need a dry sump lubrication sytem to make them work which would be massively too expensive.
