Which Sealant?

Post by sputnik » Wed Dec 19, 2018 1:55 pm

hey guys just routed my tranny cable through an existing below waterline hole in the transom. I sealed up the hole with Sikaseal marine only to find out that it isnt recomended for below waterline applications. I am now considering cleaning out the hole again and resealing with sikaflex 291. Does anyone know if the sikaseal will be fine or should I change it?

Heres a pic of the hole

Heres another pic of the hole sealed up with sikaseal.

I personally wouldn't risk it although it looks like it will be fine in the short term.

Reseal it with 291. Tape up around the fittings and hole leaving around 3mm gap. Smooth off the silicone with a mix of water and dish washing liquid, dip your finger in it, this will stop the silicone from sticking to your finger. leave it for 15mins and peel the tape off. You'll get a much better finish that way.

Cheers, Anth
