Lone star winch
My Haines has a capstan anchor winch which uses all chain about 70 mt of it. It’s slow and I have hated it since the day I bought the boat. I made a decision to replace it with a drum winch the only issue the 650 has a access door from the cabin into the anchor well handy to adjust the chain as it gets jammed on the capstan.
Not being sure if a drum winch would fit I contacted lonestar and Malki called me on the phone. He was sure it would fit so I downloaded the specs dimensions and did some measuring ripper it will.
So today I have ordered one a gx2 combo kit and elec harness should arrive next week.
Not sure when I will get around to fitting it as I am working on my house getting it ready for sale but I will post pictures when I have done it.

Re: Lone star winch
You wont regret it-ive got the GX1 with a SARCA Anchor
It took me about 1 day to fit my one onto my 420 Tin can
Its a pleasure to move from spot to spot-Thus increases your catch
Ive had mine for about 3 years and it gets used heaps-No probs what so ever
Good luck

Re: Lone star winch
Might take me a little longer not only has my bulkhead got an access panel in it it has a ledge fibreglassed into it on the cabin side. I can either cut the backing plate or cut a slot in the ledge for the backing plate to pass through. I have to remove the elec harness for the capstan winch and then cut out the fibre glass ledge it sits on under the hatch.denis barden wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2019 7:17 pmYou wont regret it-ive got the GX1 with a SARCA Anchor

Re: Lone star winch
You won't know yourself, the Gx's are powerful and fast, I miss not having one on the new boat.

Re: Lone star winch
You definitely won’t regret this winch. As others have said - good buy.
I’ve got a gx2 on my fibreglass centre console and it’s great. I’d be interested to know how that synthetic rode goes on a gx2 because I like to get outside the heads and If I’m in more than 40 meters of water I run out of length. Obviously the synthetic stuff would get a heap more on the drum.
Where about do you fish ?
Not specifically but - inside the bay or port or outside?

Re: Lone star winch
I went the 8 mm rope. I fish mostly around the bellarine and out side down past Barwon heads. Luckily I have a few friends on Phillip island westernport mostly between corinella and the corals and out in bass strait. Although I tend not to anchor to much outside I prefer to drift. That has been with this **** capstan, my previous boat I had a stress free free fall which was awesome but $1000 more expensive.Yota wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2019 8:58 pmYou definitely won’t regret this winch.
