12v Food Warmer - anyone used them in a tinnie?
Hi Folks,
not sure if this is the correct forum, so apologies if it's in the wrong spot.
I saw in the latest BCF catalogue, there's a 12v Portable Food Warmer for around $50.
Has anyone got something like this in their boat - more particularly in a 12 foot tinnie?
Or does anyone have any suggestions as to what we could use?
Just wanted to take out something different like sausage rolls or pies for our lunches when spending all day in the boat. (Chicken rolls become boring on the 5th or 6th day in a row)
It draws from 8 to 15amps depending on whether it's heating or maintaining the temperature, and my mate has an Auto Elec guy who can advise on a cig lighter connections etc and if it suits the electrics he has in the boat. There's batteries in there already as he has a Honda 20hp with elec tilt and trim.
Interested to hear back on your thoughts or suggestions.
(not looking to spend too much as we only go out a few times per year)
Cheers
Neil.

Hi Bugs , , , , ooow, I just got goosebumps
Not sure how those portable warmers are, hopefully there's some good info for you here , , , , but you seem to be doing your homework, I also would be concerned on the battery drain, especially if you only use it, go out a few times a year.
I use a butane little camp stove thing and works well, but mainly land based. It does do pies and pasties, just heat on a pan and flip. I have used it only to boil a kettle on the boat for piping hot coffee , , , , cold night and all. And yes, on the boat I do think of the risk but you only get blown up once
What I have used in the past are those re-usable heat packs , , , , the ones with the "clicker thing" (I'm sure that's the technical term) in it that crystallises the fluid in it and it goes hot. I have only used it on Pies by wrapping the pies in a tea towel then wrap that in two heat packs and it does warm them but not piping hot. A point with this method is very easy, no risk to the battery and no explosive butane to possibly make you the first Fisherman on the moon AND they are heat packs , , , , and I am getting old and they come in handy on old tired muscles
Cheers, Bugz

Hi everyone
thanks for all the info and links etc. Much appreciated!
Plenty to take in and think about.
I'll get my mate who owns the boat to talk to his auto elec (who does know what he's on about)
In the end we might end up having the old thermos hotdogs for something different out on the water.
I'll keep doing some more research though.
Cheers

was awesome hopping off on banks and having mid day lunches while braining some carp.
