Foam filled life jacket cleaning

Post by hornet » Fri Sep 20, 2019 2:53 pm

Guys I have been donated 3 Free foam filled life jackets, I want to clean them up as they have been sitting in the bilge area of a boat and have some light stains and marks........... apart from this they are in very good condition.

.. my question is how to clean them up ?

First thought was have them dry cleaned ?

Second thought was to take them to a hydromat and put them into the heavy duty washer ?

would the two methods above harm them in any way ?

Has anyone here been in this position and been successful cleaning them ?

Just use dishwashing detergent and scrub them hard with a brush.....can pretty much get anything off anything with dishwashing detergent

I was trying to get out of the manual part if I could hence the automated solutions I'm time strapped.

Hi Hornet,
Don't try what I did once, I gave a lifejacket a blast with the pressure washer, never been the same since, the fabric ended up all rippled.
Cheers
Ango.

I wasn't aware there was a due date on foam jackets ? must look into it unless someone has already researched it ?

UPDATE: I put the jackets in the washing machine whilst the wife was out... FAIL ! they tried to get out as the water was rising ! if the washing machine didn't have a child lock lid when washing they would have lifted the lid ! :o_0:

That's some stupid stuff on my part.. of course they float to the top they are life jackets... they are designed to lift 90kg lard arse's to the top of the water if they fall in ! :rf:
