Was full of water apparently.
No put in or bung not put in correctly.
Not sure how a bung could fail...
News report said man could not swim....
Boat hand no branding on it ..was only 11 months old.
Similar to this.

Bungs don't fail Bozo's fail lucky he had no one else on board to put their lives in danger as well
Also:
The man told them he’d had no time to put on his lifejacket which “went on wrong anyway” and floated away. :oo:

If it isn't a chinese Gospel I'll eat my own ****. They have now moved into knock off Stabicrafts too....

I'd have more faith in a diy of aralditing a slab of empty cans after drinking its alcholic contents than one of those after seeing build pictures.... But hey they're cheap as chips

Oh my that is scary. How could a bung fails? You put them in and turn tight.

As a new boatie, this raises questions about pre trip safety inspection. what is the sign of a bad bung?

Today I learnt there are imitation Stabicrafts! https://www.boatsales.com.au/editorial/ ... fs-120363/

The one that capsized looked like a Formosa (knockoff?)

How could bungs fail you ask?

Easy... split and perished o-rings will do the job. However boats don't just sink instantly with the bungs not in. You would definitely notice taking on water well before you start to sink. Plenty of time to get back to the ramp and on the trailer in most cases.

I'd say inexperience is the biggest factor here... Oh and a crappy Chinese manufactured boat

The report said once he knew he used that time onwards and headed back to Mornington and captsized on the way.

It also said he didn't have time to put on his lifejacket, which went on wrong, came off and it floated away.

With anytime he had, especially being on his own, putting a lifejacket on AND making sure it is properly "on" should have been his first priority.

Save yourself first, then the boat , , , , otherwise the next of kin can sell the boat to pay for his funeral.

Regards, Bugatti
