Boat not peeing with Boat Flush Muff

Post by sturgeon » Sat Sep 19, 2020 2:28 pm

Got these muffs from BCF to run the yammy 4 stroke motor during the lockdown. Got it early this year. But after 20 seconds or so with the motor on, there is still no pee stream coming from the top outlet. I have checked to make sure that there is adequate pressure in the hose and I also did a static preflush of the motor without the motor running to make sure that there is water in the system first. How long should you wait for the pee stream to start when running the motor using the muff? On the water, the motor would start peeing within 5-8 seconds. So anything longer than this, I did not feel comfortable.

My garbage bins are also too small to fit the lower unit, and I do not have any containers large enough in the house right now, so I cannot find any other way to run the motor at this time and we can't go out to buy anything at this time.

Boat has not been run since late July since the lockdown 2.0

Any advice or thoughts on this?

Stick a bit of Wipper Snipper cord down the peep hole to make sure its not blocked
Get a hunk of rubber and stuff it on one side of the muff so they are very tight-Yes they are a pain

Your Yamaha will have a little hole in front of the black plastic inlets make sure this is Covered otherwise it won’t pump the water through the power head correctly.

My 150 Yamahas has a small little hole approx 5cm in front of the inlet.

The dual entry models are generally good.
Try opening the tap a bit more to force more water into the motor.

There could also be salt crystallised in the water outlet hole. As mentioned above use some whipper snipper cord or some really thick mono line and poke it in there ti clear it out.

Best way though is to run it in a big enough tub!

Thanks ALL!!

The muff is new and still in package. The seal is good. But of course once the water is on, there is some water coming out. Should I try it again? Would I burn the impeller if there is no water coming out from the top pee hole?

I will try taping the small hole in front of the rectangular intakes and try again if it is safe.

Will try to get a bin in the near future once this lockdown is lifted. Sigh...

Yes, I have. Also have seen youtubes. They all recommend static flush using the hose port with the engine off.

I want to run the engine since it has not been run for 2 months. From what I gather, you cannot use the static hose flush method with the engine running. .

Guarantee, cover the hole with the ear muffs and you will it get it running...with the tell tale.

Use to drive me batty until I found out the cause.

If you don’t cover it with the muff, it will force air up the power head.

My Yamaha 200 4 stroke has to use the duel entry muffs even then it takes 20 to 30 seconds before water starts to flow the single entry muffs do not work on my engine. I also have a large collapse able bucket that the leg fits in which I only use when servicing my outboard
