Boat Storage 1 year

Post by sturgeon » Sun Nov 08, 2020 2:34 pm

Hi!

Might have to go away for some time.

Was wondering what you need to do to get the boat storage ready for about 1 year?

I was thinking :

1. Put the trailer on blocks?

What other things are needed?

I do not want to come back and find the boat not working or problems because it was left for too long.

Also, anyone know what prices are like for boat storage. Preferably indoors.

Thank you!

Just read an article on the web service the motor and trailer chock the trailer and fill the fuel tank and I would put some stable in the fuel, cover the prop area if it's outside

Cover water intake/s - Prevents creapy crawlers from blocking cooling system.

The biggest problem i had earlier this year was that my cable steering had seized at the motor (the cable itself is fine). It took a lot of effort and force but with help i was able to work it free. Since then i have lubed with lithium grease and every other week i turn the motor to make sure it stays free if i havent used the boat.

Not sure what you can really do to combat this, other than make sure all your grease nipples are lubed up with fresh grease. The biggest problem seems to be when new grease is getting compacted in with the old stuff which cause things to seize up.

The problem is is the grease on the push rod sets like concrete inside the housing and then its game over. I leave the motor turned so that the rod is exposed. Then clean and grease before I next go out. Heat is a big killer so if you cover the motor with a tarp etc it acts like an oven and cooks the grease

Thanks for the tips!

What about boat storage costs? How much does it typically cost to store under cover?

I know Wyndham is charging about $150 per month to store in an open secured facility.

Is that the one around the corner from the boat ramp?

I was wondering how much it was. Do they have facilities to flush your engine or anything?

I feel bad for metro people who have tiny sized blocks and can’t really fit a shed. Must cost a fortune to store a boat :( in saying that, they probably earn far more than us country folk and can afford to store their 7+m boats lol.
