Evaporate cooler

Post by smile0784 » Tue Nov 21, 2017 12:39 pm

Hi can someone tell me how to get the evaporate cooler to work properly.

I press the cooler botton and set the temp to 19c amd 10 mins later it starts but only blows hot air.
We open windows but the air never.cools down.
Even after a hr or so still hot air.

Does it need servicing?
Or broken

Is the pump on? Generally if it's just hot air blowing out the pump is off and the fan on.

Sounds like a water issue.

A lot of them have a tap to turn the water on and off. Make sure it's turned on and there is water running to the system.
The tap may be on the roof close to the unit, so I hope ya not scared of heights

Could be a few problems.

i would first check like the guys have mentioned as to wether there actually water in the unit. generally has a isolating valve and it could have been turned off.

secondly check the pads are not filthy, they need to be cleaned or replaced after certain amount of time.

the way the system works is basically theres the whole box that sits on the roof inside the perimeter of the box is numerous sponge like pads that are soaked in water. in the middle of the box is a fan. the fan draws outside air into the box via those pads which cool the air down, which is then send to the room outlets.
if there no water or pads are filled with grime/dust and dirt then it will not cool.
the fact your getting hot air means the fan is still working but possibly not enough water to soak the sponges or sponges are fubared or due for replacement

Yeah, check the water-supply to the unit...

However, evap-cooling is crap compared to refrigerative.

The biggest regret I have is that when we built our new house, we opted for evap cooling. Refridge was going to cost another 10 grand, but it would've been worth it.

It's pretty useless at temps over 34 degrees and it also makes the air inside very humid, so it sort of defeats the purposed of a cooling system.

Mind you, ours was installed 10 years ago. Maybe they've made improvements since then?

We never use ours now. I have two Mitsubishi refridge split-systems installed and that's what we use to keep us cool in the summer.

Mike.

I'm not sure how your control panel is setup but make sure the actual cooling is on. My wife is a bugga she sometimes turns the fan on but not the cooling so it only blows air from the outside which is warm obviously on a hot day.
