Like yourself bilby, Ive always thought they were transient fish which moved from the rivers to bay (dependent on food availability and salinity levels).
When I got time,
I wet a line cos Im a junkie,
been fishin since a kid,
I like it cos it numbs me..

So very true Slinga...and as a livebait they would have to be the best of the best imo.

Fish-sniper : great work! Glad you've been getting a taste of the fun. How's the "jewie fever" going? Hooked yet? Have you tried buying food grade pillies from the market and using them? You may be surprised how much more interest you'll get. This will help give you an idea of the difference between fresh and not, and why.

Many believe the new moon period fishes as well as the full moon period, but I'm a strong believer in the full moon period for jews. I've lost some of my biggest...fish that would have to be over 30kg...which has got to be the ultimate when it comes to Melbourne CBD fishing imo.
Hey mate don't worry, Ive been hooked for years, I first started fishing for mulloway 40 years ago in the Nong, I've seen the almost steel fishing rods we used to use or full solid fibreglass to the coarse fishing days and trying to catch them with maggotts, I have been targeting them for 40 years , have seen the good and the bad but i can tell you this year has been good in the nong, I have offered for people to come fish me but no one seems interestd, I;ll be at the lake this evening for something different if anyone is down there, a few pinkies in the lake
cheers frank
