i'm all for keeping fish for a feed, no worries.

but i dont think anyone would want to eat a fish of this size coming out of the yarra.

i had zero intentions of eating it, so it was a pity it had to die.

These things happen from time to time but at least you have figured out how you can try to prevent it in the future. How many other fish die the same way when guys fish with ultra light lines and totally exhaust the fish over a prolonged fight??

Are you saying you caught 8 fish over 84cm in one session? Or do you mean over the past couple of years?

the session.

just one of those lucky right place at the right time deals.

went for a session again yesterday - worked the same area, did the same rotation, and same tide window. donuts, not even a hit.

well done mate, thats quite a few in one session, a very rare occurance. but its has happened before and will happen again, just need to be in the right place at the right time.

and if going to release, best to go heavy gear as they dont release well after a slog as you have already seen.

Has anyone ever eaten one ? what's a small one say 2 or 3 kilo taste like ?
What other fish is similar in taste, if I catch one I'll know whether to keep it or release it..

I've tried them in Adelaide, they call them butterfish over there. Hard to tell how big the fish was when it's covered in batter but I rated them higher than flake
