Western Port Mulloway

Post by TheGreatestGoat » Tue Feb 07, 2017 3:28 pm

Hey Guys,

So I was thinking of putting in a few night trips over the next few months targeting jewies in WP. Was thinking around the mosquito channel area.

A couple of questions: where is the best place close to that area to collect some fresh squid?

Nothing I've read about mulloway fishing says anything about burley, is burleying recommended?

Any other things I should keep in mind?

Cheers

You can get squid from the Coronet Bay area. No idea about burley, or anything else about mulloway really

What I do know is that burley in that part of WPB can attract a lot of pests

What I've heard but I don't know if true. Some use a breadcrumb mullet burley to get the baitfish going when jew fishing.

That whole area is shallow and reefy. Drifting will produce squid in most areas there.

As for jew spots. I wouldn't have a clue. Shallow 2-5m and close to structure would be my guess.

They do head in pretty shallow under cover of darkness. If fishing near structure / reef, you may need some luck landing one!

You referring to Coronet bay area as opposed to Mosquito channel where it is deep and current rips through?

Reef island, at end of soldiers rd Coronet bay would be my choice for squid. Dont think there is any locations around mosquito channel side though

Yeah sorry. That whole area from corinella down to reef island for squidoodles. Have pulled a few drifting that area the few times I've been over that way.

a customer of ours spent nearly a whole year dedicated to catching WP Jewies...

It culminated in him landing 2 in one night... i think 15kg and 22kg (not sure of location)

He gave up after that night!
