First mulloway for 2019

Post by bilby » Sun Apr 14, 2019 10:16 am

I haven't been able to fish much over the past year, apart from some Murray Cod trips (mostly due to a building project I've been working on), but finally got a chance to get out for a dedicated snapper / mulloway session yesterday. Incredibly (and this is only the second time in my life it has happened) I picked up an 88cm mulloway on the first cast. Interestingly, I didn't have a single bite for rest of the session. I almost always release them, but due to some issues with the release, I decided to take this one home and (hopefully) donate the frame to Lauren Veale for research.

Good effort bilby. I dare say they (the researchers) can tell the age (from the frame) and therefore the growth rate. Do they look at other things?
cheers

Would that mulloway be about 10 years old?

Not sure about age, but in NSW they have this length vs weight chart (not entirely correct in all cases, though): https://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/fishing/recr ... ills/weigh
