Anyone finding mulloway recently?
Anyone finding mulloway recently?
Hey fishos
Wondering if anyone has been finding any jewies in the Yarra or nong lately? I was doing good before lockdown and straight after lockdown. But since the big rains a few weeks ago I haven’t had a touch... doing my head in!! Haha
Cheers

Re: Anyone finding mulloway recently?
You were catching on bait or lure?
Water is a bit dirty. Here's the AFN guys at the yarra few days ago. I believe on lure, I saw them when they were fishing the yarra.
Considering the murky water and how much freshwater was flowing, the yarra seems to be salty enough for EP and mulloway.

The river is now (miraculously) full of EPs - with some very big fish up over 50cm about, too. This would suggest that they are not stocked fish. Where did they come from? Is it just that people are fishing more with lures in recent years?

Yeah it’s crazy isn’t it... after the big rains about a month ago some huge EP’s appeared. Taking live mullet too!

Who knows but EPs are unpredictable and can travel between systems it’s believed.

Wonder if it’s possible that these fish have migrated from some of the urban lakes which surround the estates around Patto? Saw a report of a 55cm perch taken on live mullet few weeks back. Was surprised that fish could get to that age in a system which cops such a flogging. Or maybe these fish usually reside in the upper reaches which attract little attention?

There is always more to learn , fish to catch , places to see and friends to make.

I had a go during the daytime on the Yarra landbased this week. It was cold and there were no mulloway, but I managed to pick up a 60cm snapper for my trouble. That's a 3/0 circle hook in the corner of its mouth:

That's a good red in winter off the yarra. Well done!
One of my mate said he saw someone pulled a 2.5kg snapper off yarra around south wharf few days ago. Probably you.
