Mighty Mulloway

Post by abzz » Fri Apr 19, 2013 5:08 pm

I'll start my post with a very closely-held topic, the mighty mulloway
Does anyone here target them on a regular basis and does anyone target/catch
them in WP landbased?
My mulloway hunt started in the Yarra a few years back, a crap load of hours resulting in either
donuts/headaches or very saggy eyes.
Late December 2012 I finally hit the jackpot with a respectable fish of around 8kg..the adrenali
was incomparable. Hundreds of hours suddenly seemed so short!
Since then I have landed another five. All released except for one which was tangled with another anglers
line and couldn't be revived.
Fish ranged from about 4kg- 9.5kg
Now I'm very keen on getting one landbased from WP. Any tips, hints, advice (even pm's :D ) would be greatly
appreciated
I'll post a few pics later on tonight as my phone doesn't allow me to!

Hi abzz.
How do you find Mulloway release? In my experience, they don't release very well. Most of the fish have air bladder problems when they're lifted up to the surface, and some can't even be revived, no matter how short the fight to land them.
I mainly fished for Jewies when I lived in NSW. Since moving to Vic, I almost gave up fishing all together, but getting into it last year or so. Have caught quite a few fish up there, the PB being 19 Kg.
I was going to start trying more actively this winter and see if I can brush up on the old skills LOL.
Congrats on your catches, and I'm sure you'll have heaps more, as you sound pretty keen.
Cheers
