I was thinking to go there Monday. But I don't want to get caught in traffic otw back towards Melbourne. There'll be heaps of people coming back from the long weekend trip.
I can’t advise what the traffic is like heading back your way, any direction close to Melbourne seems to be very average nowadays. Up until sunrise seems to be the most productive time for squid there, if you can squeeze in an early morning and be heading home around lunchtime you might miss the worst of the traffic. The slack tide time matching up with sunrise and overcast forecast should be good for squid, though rain if forecast to increase as the day goes on.

Glad to hear that you were able to get your bag of calamari and interesting to hear how they were behaving! Did you have to go far out for them?

I’ll be running a squid jig on a float with the aim of picking up a few while working plastics. Keen to see what happens!
Not far at all, headed north east to about the 3-3.5m depth and trawled/drifted over the weed beds. Having a sleeper jig out seemed to intrigue the paired up squid, then it took a bit of convincing with the worked jig to get a take. Spoke to a couple of other yak fishos that reported a quiet morning on the squid also.

Looking forward to your report :ch:

Doughnuts mate!
There was a ton of weed / algae on the surface which made it pretty challenging to keep the jig clean.

Landed 15 undersize kgw in a row, moved four times. Couldn’t find them!

Will be heading out Sunday morning Clifton Springs for any keen, light onshore winds.

No good on the donuts but at least you still caught something. I can only fish Saturday morning, and it’s looking like a blowout at this stage. Good luck, hopefully the water is fairly clear of weed for you

Yeah, it was just nice being on the water.

I normally have decent success heading straight left of the old pier, but i've been noticing that we're getting more algae at the minute meaning a lot of those soft shallows sandy beds are turning less into that fine sand. May have to head further out next time.

Testing new lure sand scouting new ground, keen!

Punched out Clifton Springs Sunday 7 April 2024, 7.00 - 9.00am.
2.5 - 3.0m, caught six calamari, kept five (gave one to a mate).
All caught on the drift, still timid, red foil jig.

Will be punching out this Saturday OR Sunday (Sunday looking nicer), 7am launch, all welcome to join.
Cheers!

You’re tempting me! They look a similar size to what I was getting Easter Saturday. That’s my favourite jig, NAEBA often gets the job done.

Haha! The small ones are fun, but it won't be long till we're puling in big hoods!
My biggest there last year was a 48cm hood!

The jig is solid and one my favourites too in the cooler / overvcast months, that and silver foil for those rarer sunny days!
