Warneet Whiting Mission not what I expected

Post by Hatetangles » Tue Mar 26, 2024 2:45 pm

Last Saturday was the first time ive been fishing at Warneet in the Kayak...At first I went to the right side of the pier for about 1-2 hrs and only got 1 small Whiting. Bit later i went to the left side and drifted along the shore and i didn't know that there is heaps of oysters right next to all the mangroves. I ended up catching 5 medium sized Whiting, an under sized pinkie and a gurnard in about 45mins before the wind from South picked up and made it too hard to fish so i went back in. Today i went back thinking i'l head to the oyster patch at first light and surely i will bag out??
I had 2 bait rods both set up with paternoster rigs i made up with size 4 long shanks and using squid strips for bait.Had a couple casts and after about 20 mins one of my rods absolutely buckled & screamed!!!immediately i knew i was on thinking this was a 45 plus KGW it fought hard and pulled so much drag i was thinking nah this aint KGW its probably a gurnard....after a fun little fight it headed back towards me,under the kayak and i saw a silver flash , is it a Trevalley ? NO , it was a friggin 45cm Snapper !!!! I laughed so hard anyone sleeping on their boats would of heard me haha, caught on a size 4 long shank would you believe....anyhow I was stoked it's been too long since i caught a snapper , and funny thing is I continued fishing til about 1pm and only caught 1 KGW which unhooked itself while i reeled it in LOL.

Nice snapper! Is the pier open again? Last time I went it was mostly closed off. Used to be a nice landbased spot, got quite a few decent kgw casting from the end
