Surf Rod for targeting gummies
Hi all,
Im looking at getting into surf fishing as my parents just got a shack down Gunnamatta way.
The rod combo im looking at for the mean time until i can save a bit for a decent rod and reel is this:
http://www.bcf.com.au/online-store/prod ... mendations" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Has anyone used this combo for targeting gummys? If anyone has any better recommendations for around the same price, happy to take them on board.
Cheers,
Luke

That should be fine, are you set on an overhead? as a spin reel would be easier for casting

I'm with Larksy. Unless you have cast with and are confident, then an overhead will be a nightmare.
If you can stretch it another $50 this would be ok

Other than that, you would need to buy separate and build a combo, which will be more expensive.

just to let you know that's not the correct picture, it don't come with that reel.
it has an egg beater, am too lazy to look it up but its black an red, most likely find it on the penn site
rod is two piece, top piece sleeves over the bottom piece.
i know because i was going to buy one, found out it was an egg beater, still bought it o_0
got around the corner an the reel was f'd wile i was checking it out on my way home, seized took it back bought a second Shimano but 12 ft o_0
but i would agree with brett, unless your going to practice in the park on setting it up so it don't over spin till you know it well i would not bother.
i'd go buy the oky the poor man's Shimano, there a good rod for the money from what i've heard one of the viet guys at work uses one along with about 60+ other rods.

Re: Surf Rod for targeting gummies
Ive got 2 procyon surf rods I picked up from Boxhill CA on sale and I had guide inserts fall out on both in less than 6 months. One was a tip(I replaced the whole tip myself) and the other I paid $30 to repair(almost what I paid for the rod). Having said that Ive used it for LB whiting in the bay and they paid themselves off after a few trips(whiting are expensive haha). Not a bad snapper rod IMO but struggles casting big bait + 3oz+azkay wrote:or this;

Re: Surf Rod for targeting gummies
Thanks everyone for the advice. I didn't end up picking up any of the rods and decided I'd save for a bit until I can afford something that's great. What can you all recommend for a great reel and rod? Happy to spend up to around $400
Cheers in advance

A shimano aero wave 12ft and a shimano stradic 8000fj would be a good start.
