Bugalugs wrote:Hi folks,
I was after a new reel for bream, whiting, trout etc, and I've seen a Shimano Sedona 3000 for $87.00.
Unfortunately they don't have any 2500 left and apparently the only difference between them is a larger spool size on the 3000.
I am going to use it on a 3-6kg, 6 foot, one piece whiting rod which I bought recently (for use in a 12ft tinny)
I don't do heaps of fishing, but just wanted to have a nice reel for when I do go out. I kind of want an all-rounder as I do lures, SP and bait fishing.
Any thoughts or suggestions?
Cheers
Neil

BCF have a sale on at the moment for their Sienna reels at $38 a pop, I just got a few and they're perfectly fine for the bay.

Well I got the Sedona 2500 for $79 - even though the Sienna 2500 would have served me well. I resisted the upgrade to the Stradic, but thanks for the feedback on that reel. I have the Sunline braid line in 8lb to load up the reel. Can't wait to try it out next Thursday down at Bemm River ... and being there for 6 days with my mates will be awesome. Thanks to everyone for your input on this - I really appreciate it.
I'll post a report on how we go
Cheers
Neil

The reel was great - and the braid I have on it went well too. Only trouble is that I didn't get to test it out on too many fish.
We had the worst fishing trip (for numbers of fish caught) that we've ever had in over 25 years of our annual trips.
We caught a few good size bream - biggest being 41 and 39cm. A few tailor on lures - going around 40-45cm and also a 50cm mullet (on a wet fly - yes a wet fly) All in all not many fish but all certainly had a great time relaxing and we even went for a swim down at the entrance (which has been closed for months)
Can't wait to test out the reel again, one day soon I hope.
Cheers
Neil
