Bit stiff to reel lure back in,only used max 10 times
does it wind properly when no load, ie free spinning.
Was going to send it back had not been used for few months, appeared to be free spinning again ok....took it out again last week n no good after 5 mins of spinning
Remove the spool, wipe the shaft. If the grease is dark, cleaning will do it. If you don't feel comfortable dismantling the reel, lube the shaft generously and spin the handle many times. Wipe again, lube and spin. It will relieve the stiffness. If you see black grease, I guarantee your bearing needs replacement. You will feel the grinding of the bearings.

If you plan to fish the Brighton area after work this week, we can meet up and I can look at your reel. I don't have reel grease though. :-)

I second that, Bowl if you cant do it yourself, or its not under warrantee, sounds like an easy fix or take it to this bloke, he's very reasonable and
knows his reels.

As others have said failed bearing.

You might get some more life out of it with fresh lube but it wont last IMO change or have the bearing changed for you.

That is a CI-4+ reel.

How about the bottom portion of the shaft? Is it sticky? I am thinking the grease got contaminated and somehow dried up. I had that issue too. Do you have sewing machine oil or reel oil that you can put on the bottom part and spin the reel a few times?

The only thing that can cause it to be sticky if there is a lube issue are parts 12585, 14806, 14839 and 13241 (if rusted, you will feel the bearing grinding). Oil the shaft (14806) and let it seep inside by spinning the reel. If it is lube issue, you will be good after a few drops of oil.

If there is too much gunk on part 12585, the reel handle can reverse for no reasons at all. Do not grease this part.

Good one. Good one. (double response for double post)

Check the line roller too Bowl. Make sure it is not stuck.

I will take it off your hands for $50. :-)
