Shimano reel part purpose
I have been pulling apart some small shimano baitrunners and noticed there is a small spring and tooth arrangement on the underside of the oscillating gear. I believe this is called an Oscillating Gear Ratchet Spring, On some of the reels this spring is either missing or damaged.
What does this spring do and is it essential. Reels seem to operate without them. Is it just a baitrunner function or part of the standard reel operation?

It does look Like a bail arm spring I thought the other springs had little loops at the ends to attach on.

Re: Shimano reel part purpose
ST & DL Baitrunners. Its definitely not bail arm spring, it is inserted on the underside of the oscilallation gear in a recess to operate a ratchet arrangement. It works in compression. It is tiny. If you dont know it's there it will fall out and you will loose it when you lift the gear out.

Yep I know what the part is, photo of the part came from a seller, just want to know what it actually does, and how it affects the reels function if missing. Ie what is the purpose of the oscillating rachet?Fish-cador wrote:Its the ratchet spring. Part # 13548

Re: Shimano reel part purpose
I have no idea but I am sure Alan Tani would know look him up on google or Facebook send him a message he will respond or mikesreelrepair I have bought bits from him before these guys live and breath reels. Even contact the shimano service in Sydney I bought some charter special parts from them before they will probably know.
