Offshore Rod, Reel and Line recommendations please
Hi All,
By no stretch of the imagination an experienced fisherman though someone who does flick a few lures from time to time and loves fishing. Due to invitations to go offshore fishing in the bay with friends on their boat, I`ve realised I need to buy an offshore set up. Can`t afford anything expensive, was thinking Shimano Sienna or Diawa Exceller in 4000 size? With 30lb braid? No idea on rod size or specifics, and even if a 4000 reel would work with 30 lb braid sorry all gear is for lightweight atm. Probs couldn't rly go over $130 for rod or reel but would like something that is reliable and lasts.
Any advise, information or expertise would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks so much,
Blake
P.S
Also definitely willing to buy second-hand if anyone is clearing any of their stock

Re: Offshore Rod, Reel and Line recommendations please
Are you just headingnout into bass strait from port phillip bay or westenport?
Or offshore say out of apollo bay etc?
Do you know what you will be targeting?
Any 4000 to 6000 size reel with 8 to 12kg rod with 30ld braid will be fine and will handle most bottom bashing things and a smaĺl mako or mod size gummy.
And you could use that out fit for gummys and snapper boat based in westenport. Could use in portphillip bay mite be touch on the heavy but still get the job done.

Hey mate, what are you looking for? Just going out in a boat on the bay (Typically people consider offshore gear game fishing gear for pelagics in the ocean)
Plenty of good combos in your price range if its just for snapper fishing in the bay. I caught the below fish on a sienna and cheap shimano rod this weekend no worries at all. (4000 reel, 3-5kf rod, 20lb braid)
