Another what to buy rod/reel - PPB/WP Snapper/Whiting

Post by tf24 » Tue Nov 28, 2017 3:38 pm

Hi All,

Another what to buy thread.

I am slowly getting back into fishing after 5+ years away and want to get some new combos before Christmas but struggling to figure out what to get.

My needs:
Type of fishing: Boat based
Where: WPB (from Ryhll) and PPB (from Mornington)
Fish: Snapper or Whiting

Looking to start out with 4 rods that I can maintain for myself as at present I rotate between my dad's boat in WPB and friend's boat which we usually launch from Mornington.

I see BCF have the $99 Shimano combo at the moment but not sure which to get.
http://www.bcf.com.au/BonusBuy/shimano- ... CM18WK22-6

If you were starting out to cover the above basis what would you get? 4 of same or mix it with 2 lighter rods and 2 medium rods?

Any thoughts suggestions would be great.

cheers

Those Sienna combos aren't bad for the price with the braid included.

Thanks guys for the input. I think a 2 and 2 mix sounds like a plan.

The deal does sound pretty good to me.

And do you suggest braid or mono and what line strength for each?
I guess braid is included in combo.

10 to 15lb braid for light rod

30+ lb braid for snapper in westenport just incase you hook a gummy or ray

That shimano combo at bcf is a ripper deal.
I would buy that without thinking twice.
In saying that a 4000 reel and associated rod might not be enough to tackle the wpb bycatch

Ppb id just get the 2-4 kg and 2500 sienna for whiting and snapper.
I have the 4000 sienna and it's probably overkill for average sized snapper tbh..
