Never really found a decent telescopic. Brought a few travel rods instead, have a 12 ft 5 piece Shakespeare surf rod, a 7ft shakespeare slingshot that I've used off the rocks and in the boat. I also picked a shimano nano 9ft 4 piece which is great for slinging metals off the beach. Tge shakeaspeare ones are pretty reasonably priced as well.

So the thoughts seem to be travel rod over telescopic, right?

I need something to take on the plane to Fiji, preferably can fit in my suitcase rather than PVC tube. Needs to be able to handle light game (smallish GTs, coral trouts, smallish Spanish mack) so probably 7"-7'5" in the 6-10+kg size? Don't mind spending a couple hundred bucks if it's worth it as I can always take it hiking/camping trips where i need to pack light

If anyone has any recommendations let's hear it!

Edit: just seen the shakespeare slingshot does a 10 kilo. Any reviews on this?

Edit: just seen the shakespeare slingshot does a 10 kilo. Any reviews on this?

I've got the 3-6kg one and that has no problem stopping 3kg trevs up in QLD and rat kings in NZ so reckon you would have no probs. I was chucking 65gm metals in NZ with no issues at all.

What reel do you run?

I take a couple of 3 piece travel rods up to Weipa every year and have yet to be let down. Shimano revolution travel series. The 703 (5-10kg) and 733 (10-15kg) and 763 (15-24kg) I reckon they are fantastic rods. Otherwise the Raider 703 heavy spin (6-10kg) are still great 3 piece rods. They collapse small enough to get in my check in luggage in a few bits on PVC pipe I've cut down.
