Shimano 2500 vs 3000 & 4000 vs 5000
Hi All,
I realise the 2500 & 3000 Shimano reels are identical (and 4000 & 5000) except for a deeper spool allowing more line, but why wouldn't you just buy the larger versions....why do Shimano keep making the 2500 and 4000 reels?

Because the rotor and the spools are physically larger, adding weight. Not everyone wants the weight or needs the extra 80m or more of line capacity

Re: Shimano 2500 vs 3000 & 4000 vs 5000
In my case I fish freshwater only. I don't need a lot of line...150 metres is ample and if I got a larger spool, then I need 300 metres of braid (whatever they take) or I need backing to part fill the spool. That's one reason I can think of in my case.Mattblack wrote:Hi All,

Re: Shimano 2500 vs 3000 & 4000 vs 5000
The spool diameter also is part of the overall gearing of the reel.
3000 has taller gearing compared with 2500.
For squid 3000 is preferred over 2500 due to the gearing difference.
In the 4000 size I would probably prefer the 4000 over the 5000 pending on the application.

Nasci/stradic Ci4 2500 and 3000 are identical except for the amount of line you can put on them.purple5ive wrote:IN WHAT SIZESMattblack wrote:According to the website the Nasci & Stradic CI4 are identical weight and gear ratio...(not sure about the others)

im getting him a Exceller LT 3000
